THE CHAIR: And that would be a percentage. How much public housing against a percentage of total housing in each of those areas?
Ms Berry: Yes, I think we might have that.
Ms Borwick: When you say each of those areas, within Molonglo?
THE CHAIR: No, within —
Ms Berry: No, just across the city.
THE CHAIR:—we had the question earlier about the total number per district.
Ms Borwick: The district, yes.
MR HANSON: Because one of the questions – the reason for that, is it is a new area.
Ms Berry: Yes.
MR HANSON: So it does not have the sort of social supports that you do get in more established suburbs —
Ms Berry: I understand.
MR HANSON: Public transport is a bit problematic. If you do not own a car out there, you are very isolated from shops and the development of the groups, the group centre, is not going to be until 2030 or something. So it is a particular area of concern, where I just do not think there is the supports. And then the more public housing tenants that go in there obviously puts pressure on those limited amount of supports that are there.
Ms Berry: Again, go back to the response that Ms Rule gave, is that we carefully match people up to homes to where they want to live. So we are not going to put somebody who needs to be closer to a health facility out in a new suburb where there are not health facilities.
So those are the kinds of jigsaws and matchmaking that Housing ACT tenant allocation team is doing every day, to make sure that we are matching tenants with their needs. Whether that is to live closer to the city or further away, closer to families or new areas, like the Molonglo Valley. And that is the sort of, I guess, the challenge with making sure that we try to meet everybody’s needs as much as we possibly can through the tenant allocations team.
Ms Rule: And of course, in places like Molonglo Valley, there is land availability, so they have – I have personally visited a few brand-new developments in the Molonglo Valley which are fantastic.
Ms Berry: That is outstanding.
Ms Rule: Will make great homes for people who have moved into those developments. So as the minister said, we match people to those places based on need. But there are some really great homes out there now.
